Silage Zone®

For dairy & beef operations

Five stages,
one silage program.

The Silage Zone® Manual is Pioneer's silage management reference, built around the five stages of a silage program. A profitable silage program hinges on the success and interaction of all of them.

Feed cost represents the largest single expenditure on most livestock operations. The production of high quality silages can help reduce the cost associated with feeding purchased concentrates and supplements. For dairy and beef producers, whole-plant corn, high-moisture corn, alfalfa, cereals, and a variety of grass species are the silages of most economic significance.

01

Plant

Silage hybrid selection, planting date, row spacing, planting depth, plant population, stand evaluation and replant decisions — plus alfalfa variety selection and blends.

02

Grow

In-season crop management and monitoring through the growth stages that set whole-plant yield and quality.

03

Harvest

Harvest timing and moisture, chop length and kernel processing — the decisions that set fibre digestibility and starch availability.

04

Store

Filling, packing, covering and sealing, plus inoculant strategy to control fermentation and protect dry matter.

05

Feed

Feedout management, bunklife and ration inclusion, including high-moisture corn, earlage and snaplage.

The manual focuses primarily on corn silage, high-moisture corn (earlage, snaplage), alfalfa silages and a short section on managing and feeding Plenish® high oleic soybeans.
